How To Listen

Portable Radio

You can listen to Star Radio in many different ways. We broadcast on FM on the following frequencies:

County Durham: 102.8, Bishop Auckland: 106.8, Darlington: 103.2, Northallerton: 103.5 and Richmond: 102.6

FM can still provide significantly better sound quality than DAB, with fewer drop-outs on the move!

You can also listen to Star Radio via the internet from anywhere around the world. To listen simply click on 'Listen Live' at the top of our website, and then select your local transmitter.

Listening online previously used to be restricted to the UK only, however this is no longer the case.

You can also listen to Star Radio via our mobile apps.

We have apps avaliable for iPhone, iPad, Andriod and Kindle Devices. You can learn more about our apps by visiting our App's page. All our mobile apps are free to download, however mobile data charges may apply.

With our mobile apps along with being able to listen to Star Radio on the go, you can also get the latest news, travel and weather information in the palm of your hand.

Can I listen to Star on DAB Digital Radio?

We currently don't broadcast on DAB as there isn't a digital multiplex that adequately covers our area.

We are fully committed to remaining on FM. Don't feel you're missing out on anything special because we're not on DAB. A strong FM signal provides better sound quality than DAB which 'compresses' the audio in order to squeeze more stations onto each multiplex. Plus around half of DAB stations don't even broadcast in stereo! FM signals are also more reliable when on the move and are much less prone to the signal dropping out.

I'm having trouble listening online. What should I do?

Check that you have the latest version of your audio streaming plugins installed: Windows Media Player (for PC Users) or Flip4Mac (for Mac users). Also, make sure you allow pop-ups / deactivate your pop-up blocker for this site.
